Marea -Data Physicalization
In it’s current prototypical form,
the water level in the tank reflects the tide level off the coast of San Juan,
Puerto Rico. Loosely regulated construction practices and lack of proper
education on the subject have put much of the population in a dangerous
circumstance, with many buildings built less than 30 feet from the water.
By being susceptible to tsunami waves, this project exposes Puerto Rico’s
risky disregard for potential disaster.
The tide data is scraped from the NOAA website (and other sources) and mapped
to the water level in its respective tank. In the case of a tsunami wave,
the tank will overflow, impacting any person who experiences it.
